The Starfish Story
One day, a man was walking on the beach. Some distance ahead, he noticed a boy picking up things and gently throwing them into the ocean. When he got close enough to the boy, he asked, "What are you doing?" The boy replied, "Throwing starfish back into the ocean. Many are on the beach. The tide is going out. They cannot live long out of water. If I don't throw them back, they'll die."
"Son," the man said, "don't you realize there are miles and miles of beach and hundreds, maybe thousands, of starfish? You can't save them all. You can't even make a difference." The boy didn't say anything. He just bent over, picked up another starfish, and threw it into the water. He said... "I made a difference for that one!"
Just as the boy could not save every starfish, we at The Starfish Foundation know that we cannot save everyone from the consequences of sin, poverty, illiteracy, and violence. However, just as the boy did what he could to save some starfish, we insist on doing what is within our power to help and save as many people as we can.
